- Mr. Howell C. "Bud" Iles (Director)

Bud Iles graduated from Lamar University with a B.S. in Biology/Chemistry. He also obtained a M.S. Degree in Educational Administration/Curriculum. His career began as a high school biology and chemistry teacher and he held positions in environmental science and medical labs. He joined the U.S. Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Ramstein, Germany, as a counselor and began his administrative career in Jever, Germany. Other administrative assignments included schools in Moers, Baumholder, and Kaiserslautern, Germany.
Bud Iles joined the U.S. Department of Defense Pacific Region as a principal in Chinhae, Korea and later accepted the position as principal of Bob Hope Primary School in Okinawa, Japan. His administrative career includes primary schools through high schools.
Bud Iles' awards include the IDEA Distinguished Educator’s Award, the Korean Civilian Service Medal and the Distinguished Educator’s Award from the Pacific Naval Commander of Fleet Activities in Korea.
- Mrs. Judy Iles (Teacher)

Judy Iles graduated from Lamar University and the University of Maryland. She owned and directed a private Montessori pre-school and served as a kindergarten and first grade teacher in Texas. She joined the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in 1981.
Judy Iles piloted the Special Education inclusion program in Germany and served as a reading specialist for high risk students. In Korea, she was the district language arts liaison and staff developer for reading and was also a multi-age teacher for six years. In Okinawa, Japan, Judy Iles was the literacy facilitator for an intermediate school and she has also also served as a teacher of special education.
- Mr. Michael Scerri (Teacher)

Michael Scerri is a veteran QSI teacher at all levels. Mr. Scerri has spent the past 9 years teaching and serving as the Athletic Director at the QSI International School of Tbilisi, Georgia. There he taught a variety of subjects ranging from intensive English, Mathematics, cultural studies to Science, English and Physical Education. Prior to that time he taught at St. Dorothy’s School in Malta.
Mr. Scerri studied mathematics and physics at The A.E.B. London, received his teaching warrant and pedagogical course through the University of Malta. In addition, Michael completed his IAAF Officials Course through the International Olympic Committee. He has gone through extensive training in QSI and received a glowing recommendation from his Director in Tbilisi.
Mr. Scerri believes that education is the “academic, psychological, physical and emotional development of children.” He is committed to the Success Orientations, which constitute a very important part of the character development program in every QSI school around the world. We are very fortunate to obtain the services of Michael Scerri, who brings experience, years of success, and a true love of students to QSI International School of Malta.

Rebecca Portelli received her Honors degree in English and Philosophy from Reading University in the U.K. She has completed her postgraduate licentiate from Trinity College in London. Rebecca has also had experience and course work in teaching students with special needs.
She has taught in Barcelona (Spain), Perth (Australia) and St. Paul’s Bay (Malta). She has worked with students of all ages and has also assumed responsibilities in developing curriculum and hiring instructors. Her work includes direct instruction in English literature, writing, cultural studies and Intensive English.
- Mrs. Chantal Denier (Teacher)

Chantal Denier has taught ESL (English as a Second Language), and French in Canada and London. She received her Bachelor of Arts in French Linguistics and Literature from York University in Canada, her Bachelor of Education in French from the University of Toronto and her EFL Teaching Diploma and ESL Certificate in London.
According to one of her references, Mrs. Denier was one of the finest teachers he had ever supervised. “Her rapport with the students and parents was exceptional and the students made tremendous progress.”

Carmen Grech has been successfully teaching music in Malta for many years. She received her ATCL and LTCL from Trinity College of Music, her Bachelors of Education (with Honors) from the University of Malta and her AMus LCM and LMus LCM from the London College of Music. In addition to serving as a teacher of music in numerous State Schools, she has played for the Drama Unit of the Department of Education, composed school hymns, served as a judge at various song festivals, and has been selected to present various programs and performances on stage. She has also been giving private music and piano lessons. We are truly excited to add the talents of Mrs. Grech to our staff and know the students will grow culturally and musically.

Emma Scerri is Maltese, but spent the last 10 years in Georgia (part of the former Soviet Union) as a student and missionary. She graduated from a local Georgian school, while competing in athletics at the QSI School in Tbilisi, where she was introduced and impacted by the Success Orientations of QSI. She received her Computer Driver’s License. At QSI International School of Malta, Emma is serving as a teachers’ assistant, working with the younger students and providing direct instruction in the ECDL (Computer Driver’s License) to qualifying students. Emma states that she “loves the success orientations and can see them at work in QSI Malta. I love the close community atmosphere of the school and the emphasis on success.”
- Mrs. Caroline Sammut (Administrative Coordinator)

Caroline Sammut completed her secondary education in the Maltese system and then worked for several years as a manager in the hotel business in Malta. She served as the assistant to the Director of Operations, and secretary for the Director of Food and Beverages at the Intercontinental Hotel. She was also the Club Intercontinental Manager. She has also received a Diploma in Child Psychology from the European Institute of Education.
