The Mastery Learning Model

QSI uses the Mastery Learning Model of instruction, which is a focused and powerful way of organizing curriculum and instruction. The courses of study at all grade levels are well articulated and the educational program is based upon the student's mastery of specific units or expectations.

When a unit is covered in class and the teacher is satisfied that the student has understood it, the student will be tested on what was covered in that unit. Curriculum is set at a high level of cognition and students are expected to achieve a grade of A (90 – 100%) or B (80 – 90%). If this is not achieved, the unit will be retaught and the student retested until a grade of A or B is achieved. Only then will the student be allowed to proceed to the next unit.

Advanced Placement International Diploma (APID)

The APID is a diploma for students with an international outlook and is recognised by leading universities worldwide. The APID challenges a student to display exceptional achievement on AP exams across several disciplines. Beginning the second year of secondary school, students may enroll in AP classes.

International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Prep Program

The curriculum of QSI covers that of the IGCSE. However, students wishing to take these exams are given an opportunity to revise the test areas and to prepare for the testing mode used. Classes are scheduled during the school day and after school.
